What Is an Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)?

How Is an Arm Lift Performed?
Here’s what you can expect during an arm lift procedure:
- Marking and Preparation: Your surgeon will mark the areas where incisions will be made.
- General Anesthesia: You’ll be placed under general anesthesia to ensure comfort throughout the surgery.
- Incision and Skin Removal: An incision is made from the armpit to just above the elbow. Excess skin and fat are removed.
- Closure: The incision is closed with dissolvable sutures under the skin and sealed with surgical glue.
- Post-Surgery Care: The area is dressed with bandages, and a surgical compression garment is applied to manage swelling.
What Is Recovery Like After an Arm Lift?
Recovery from an arm lift typically involves:
- First 10–14 Days: Tightness and tenderness around the incision areas are common. Pain medication will be prescribed to manage discomfort.
- Compression Garment: Patients must wear a compression garment 24/7 for four weeks to control swelling and aid in healing.
- Activity Restrictions: Avoid exercise or lifting anything over 10 pounds for at least four weeks.
- Follow-Up Care: Your surgeon will monitor your recovery and advise when you can gradually increase your activity levels.
While initial swelling and tenderness subside over a few weeks, final results become fully visible in a few months as scars fade and the arms heal completely.
