Reversing the signs of aging.
Are you looking to reverse the signs of aging?
Aging is the result of a combination of biologic processes. As we age, we experience thinning of the skin and facial fat pads, laxity in the ligaments that hold tissues up, and loss of bone in the brow, cheeks and jaw. All of these factors contribute to the appearance of wrinkles, hallowing of the eyes, flattening of the cheeks and the emergence of jowling.
Because aging is caused by the interplay of changes occurring in all five facial anatomical layers: skeleton, ligaments, muscles, adipose tissue, and skin, a multilayered combined treatment is necessary. In other words, no single technology, filler, or neuromodulator can achieve all the results desired in treating the aging face. The question is when and how to combine different aesthetic interventions safely and effectively.
The current trend in the area of non-surgical and non-invasive aesthetics is that of a multimodal, combined approach aimed at treating the Four R’s of facial rejuvenation: resurfacing, repositioning, revolumizing and relaxing.
Kellee, FNP: “When a patient looks in the mirror he or she sees the results of various factors that cause the appearance of aging. It’s our job to assess all of those factors and address each of them. We have found that combination treatment plans that involve all aspects of what we do from medical grade skincare, to PDO threads, to fillers and neuromodulators, and sometimes even surgery equate to better results in the end, as these treatments have synergistic benefits when done together.”
Resurfacing is aimed at improving skin quality and texture through the use of topical, medical grade skincare products, peels, UV protection, moisturizers, and topical antioxidants. In addition, device-based rejuvenation procedures such as microneedling, radiofrequency, and lasers address the signs of aging at the skin layer.
Repositioning is the process of lifting sagging skin and its underlying structures. One of the best approaches to repositioning the tissues is with PDO threads. PDO threads are absorbable suture material that stimulate the body’s ability to build collagen as well as provide lift to the structures of the face. PDO threads last approximately 1-2 years and can be done in a single office-based procedure with minimal discomfort and downtime. PDO threads can be used in any area of the body as well as for hair restoration. Kellee, FNP: “Patients love this procedure because they can see results immediately.”
Revolumizing is the process of using injectable filler material to revitalize areas of volume loss. Particularly in the areas of the cheeks, temples, chin/jaw and lips. Our nurse injectors have had training by industry leaders in the areas of facial anatomy and advanced filler techniques which allows them to assess and treat areas of volume loss safely and naturally.
Relaxing involves using neuromodulators (Botox, Jeuveau, etc.) in order to smooth wrinkles and relax the muscles of the face that cause wrinkles. Hyperactive muscles around the eyes cause fine lines and wrinkles known as crow’s feet. Other muscles around the mouth can cause the corners of the mouth to turn down and dimpling of the chin. The platysma muscles in the neck can cause sagging and undefined contours to the jawline. Our providers can set up customized protocols for individual patients in order to smooth wrinkles and relax the relevant muscles in the most personalized way.
All of these options can be overwhelming and knowing where to start is one of our most commonly asked questions… Let us take the guesswork out with a consultation with one of our Board Certified Plastic Surgeons or our Nurse Practitioner who is Board Certified in Anti-Aging Medicine as well as a Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist.
Kellee, FNP: “At the end of the day, it comes down to providing the natural, individual results our patients desire, and the key to this is the combination of the right treatments.”
At The Centre, P.C. safety is our priority. Many of the services rendered in our medical spa are considered medical procedures. Therefore, it is a crucial first step for med spas to establish the patient-provider relationship and ensure that a med spa patient is a good candidate for the procedures he or she is seeking. This is the purpose of the good faith exam. Patient consultations, or “good-faith exams,” are among the most crucial aspects of proper patient care. Recently, the media has highlighted negative outcomes from medical spa treatments that resulted in adverse outcomes. The Doctor Oz Show featured a story in which unlicensed and unqualified practitioners performed treatments that resulted in harm to patients. As a result, the medical spa industry has established compliance guidelines to promote safe, professional, and competent care. Patients should always be seen by a doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant who can then delegate certain treatments to other licensed professionals such as a registered nurse or aesthetician. At The Centre, P.C. our physicians are board certified plastic surgeons and our board certified nurse practitioner also has additional certification in anti-aging medicine and is a certified aesthetic nurse specialist and plastic surgery nurse. Our lead aesthetician holds a laser safety certification and all of our aestheticians have received the ZO® Expert Certification. It is important that patients check the credentials of the providers and facilities where they are seeking treatment. In order to make this process more streamlined and accessible we offer virtual consultations with our nurse practitioner so patients can discuss their desires and goals without leaving the comfort of home.
