When you age, wrinkles start to form on your face as collagen production and skin elasticity decline. Botox is an excellent option for smoothing your skin and restoring youthfulness. The neurotoxin works by temporarily blocking muscle contractions to create a smooth, flawless look.
Through a simple injection at our Centre Yourself medical spa, Botox can help diminish expression lines around the eyes and forehead that result from stress or genetics, giving you a softer, younger, more radiant look. If you are considering Botox, our skilled, licensed providers are here to discuss why this treatment may be the best solution for your cosmetic or medical needs.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox treats facial wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyes in the area sometimes called the “elevens,” and in the upper third section of the face on the sides of your eyes known as the “crow’s feet” area. This neurotoxin injection reduces facial wrinkles and fine lines resulting in smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
The injections contain a botulinum toxin, which temporarily paralyzes or weakens the muscles used in facial expressions to reduce muscle movements that form wrinkles. The toxin works by blocking specific signals between the nerves that are responsible for muscle contractions. After stopping the signals, the muscles temporarily relax, resulting in smoother, unlined skin around the eyes and forehead.
Medical Conditions that Can Be Treated with Botox Injections
The primary use of Botox injections at our medical spa is to reduce wrinkles on the face. However, Botox can be helpful for other conditions that involve abnormal muscle movements or impaired muscle control. Conditions that could benefit from Botox injections include:
- Lazy eye
- Chronic migraines
- Eye twitching
- Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
- Muscle contractures
For patients suffering from any of these conditions, Botox can significantly reduce pain and improve physical functioning.
Risks and Side Effects of Botox Injections
Since Botox utilizes a toxin, there are a few possible risks to consider before treatment. However, since the treatment is temporary, side effects will eventually wear off. Botox injections could result in eye dryness, excessive tearing, crooked smile, drooling, droopy eyelids, and uneven eyebrows.
Additionally, Botox side effects could include headaches, flu-like symptoms, and pain, bruising and swelling at injection sites. More severe risks include vision problems, breathing problems, muscle weakness, loss of bladder control, and trouble speaking or swallowing. Having a licensed provider at our Mishawaka office perform Botox treatments can drastically reduce the chances of severe side effects.
Women currently breastfeeding or pregnant should avoid Botox treatments. Patients allergic to cow’s milk protein should also not receive Botox injections.
What to Expect from Botox at our Medical Spa
The effect of Botox is temporary, and regular re-injections are necessary to maintain results. Results of the treatment become noticeable between one and five days after the injections and last for approximately three months.
Botox also works well with dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM®, Revanesse® Versa™, Radiesse®, and Renuva®. These fillers erase lines and folds by adding volume beneath the skin’s surface. A licensed and experienced professional at The Centre, P.C. can advise about additional treatments to enhance the results of Botox Cosmetic.
