Frequently Asked Questions

What part of the face does a brow lift improve?

The term facelift has become a catchall for a variety of facial cosmetic procedures that address the signs of ageing in different ways and in different parts of the face.

A brow lift improves the forehead and area above the brows. In particular, deep creases or a furrowed brow can be improved through the brow lift procedure.

A brow lift is commonly performed with other procedures such as an eyelid lift or facelift, which addresses the orbital areas around the eyes and the mid to lower face, respectively.

How is a brow lift procedure done?

Brow lift procedures are performed using general anesthesia or intravenous sedation; they are outpatient procedures, which means patients can return home once the surgery is over.

There are several ways to perform a brow lift procedure, depending on the patient and his or her aesthetic goals.

For example, a popular method known as an endoscopic brow lift is a less invasive method performed by making short incisions just behind the hairline. A tiny camera and thin instruments are delicately inserted to lift and reposition the muscles and underlying tissues.

Excess fat and tissue are removed as needed to sculpt a smooth and youthful brow.

What is the recovery time for a brow lift?

Recovery after a brow lift differs slightly depending on the patient and whether or not multiple facial cosmetic procedures were performed.

Generally, patients feel little discomfort after a brow lift. Although, it’s common to feel tightness and sore around the incision area and throughout the brow.

Swelling and bruising are most common, but they generally fade within ten days of the surgery.

Patients may regain limited activity within a day or two but should plan on taking it easy for at least the first week after surgery.

Patients can shower and shampoo their hair within two days of the procedure, or as soon as the bandage is removed. Incisions are typically closed with sutures or staples; these are removed about a week after surgery.

Patients will also be advised to avoid direct sun exposure for several months following surgery. Intense exercise, sexual activity, or any activity that would cause a significant increase in blood pressure should be limited for several weeks.

Most patients are able to return to work within a week to ten days after the procedure.

Am I a good candidate for brow lift surgery?

A heavy or furrowed brow can affect how you and other people perceive your facial expressions. For example, deep creases in the brow can mistakenly give the appearance of worry or concern.

If your brow is naturally heavy or furrowed due to aging, you may be a good candidate for brow lift surgery.

Ideal candidates are in general good health, non-smokers, and realistic about their aesthetic beauty goals.
