Valentine's Special

Changes in our breast size, shape and volume happen naturally as we get older.  We experience these changes due to weight fluctuations, having children, and aging.  The most common physical change we hear about is “sagging” of the breast which affects the contour, size and shape of our breasts.  If this is something you are experiencing, then a breast lift (mastopexy) could be just what you need to revitalize your breasts.

The Centre, P.C. is your destination for cosmetic breast surgery and our board-certified plastic surgeons and board eligible plastic surgeon will take you step-by-step through the procedure and requirements that this procedure entails so that you feel confident in your decision to have a breast lift in Indiana.

What Does a Breast Lift Do?

Primarily, breast lift surgery raises the position of the nipple and areola on the chest wall to a higher, more youthful-looking position. This is achieved by removing excess, stretched skin which tightens the breast by reshaping it into a rounder, firmer form. For some patients, significant breast sagging also results in visible stretching of the areola.

If that has occurred, a mastopexy could allow a plastic surgeon to reduce the areola size by removing the excess tissue from the areola perimeter. However, a breast lift procedure does not enhance a patient’s breast size; and in some cases, it could slightly reduce a woman’s natural breast size. Often women benefit from a combination breast lift and augmentation in the same session.

It is difficult to estimate the longevity of a mastopexy before breast sagging begins to recur. It is crucial for patients to remember that a breast lift does not stop the aging process, so breasts will eventually begin to sag downward again at some point. Other factors such as hormone changes and weight fluctuations may also greatly affect your results.

Candidate Qualifications for Breast Lift Surgery

Qualifications for a breast lift surgery include breasts that have developed into flatter, elongated shapes, and downward-pointing nipples and areolas. Typically, mastopexy is for breast sagging that causes the nipples to fall below the breasts inframammary crease.

Mastopexy surgery can correct several other cosmetic concerns in addition to sagging. For instance, many women experience nipple and areola stretching as they age, as well as declining skin laxity. In some cases, sagging may affect individual breasts differently, leading to asymmetry, which can also be corrected.

In addition to physical breast characteristics, potential patients must maintain a stable weight both before and after surgery. Weight fluctuations after a mastopexy could result in a quicker decline of surgical correction appearance.
