Brazilian Butt Lift vs. Butt Implants vs. Diet & Exercise

If you want to improve the shape of your derriere, it’s likely you’ve considered several options including diet and exercise, as well as surgical procedures like implants or a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Can each option deliver the same results? How do you know what’s best for your booty? The board-certified cosmetic surgeons at The Centre P.C. answer these questions and more, below.

Diet & Exercise

There are three things that determine the shape of the butt: bone structure, length, and the bulk of muscle and fat distribution.

Bone structure is determined by genetics and can’t be changed. Similarly, the length and location of muscle tissue is hereditary; however, size or bulk is enhanced by exercise.

Genetics also determines how fat is distributed in the body.

Fat distribution has a greater effect on the shape of the butt than bone structure or muscles length. People who lack fat or have too much of it, won’t be able to sculpt the perfect bottom with diet and exercise alone.

Squats, for example, promise a better booty. But for many people, squats increase muscle volume, but can’t deliver the round and voluptuous shape made popular by celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj.

Diet and exercise can shrink fat, but not necessarily in the places you want. Similarly, strength training your butt can increase muscle size, but may not shape or contour the butt as desired.

Unfortunately, injuries and other challenges prohibit some from performing the demanding exercises required to sculpt the perfect backside. Moreover, genetics ultimately determines the shape of the butt, so despite great effort, not everyone can achieve a flawless figure with diet and exercise alone.

Butt Implants

Butt implants are exactly what they sound like: a silicone implant is inserted either below or above the gluteal muscles through a small incision—commonly where the cheek meets the back of the thigh.

This procedure delivers instant volume, and through careful placement, can improve a patient’s proportions to achieve an hourglass-like silhouette.

For patients already in good physical condition, butt implants may deliver what diet and exercise can’t.

This procedure is also a good option for patients who don’t have enough fat to transfer through other augmentations. In some cases, butt implants are used in combination with other procedures.

Brazilian Butt Lift

Butt augmentation with fat grafting is commonly called a Brazilian Butt Lift. This procedure involves removing excess fat from areas like the abdomen, outer thigh, or “love handles.” The fat is purified and carefully reinjected to sculpt the desired size and shape.

A Brazilian Butt Lift is distinct from diet and exercise and a butt implant procedure in that it involves redistributing fat from the patient’s own body.

If the patient gains or loses weight after the procedure, they will find that grafted fat cells behave the same as when they were located elsewhere. In other words, if stubborn fat from the outer thigh is grafted to the buttocks, the fat cells will still be stubborn.

For the procedure to be successful, the patient needs fat available for harvesting. Those with extremely low body fat will not have enough fat available to add volume to the buttocks; implants may be a better option.

Ideal candidates for a Brazilian Butt Lift are in good health and within 15 pounds of their ideal body weight.

What’s Right for You?

Most people will turn to diet and exercise before getting serious about elective cosmetic surgery. We think this is a great way to start your self-improvement journey. In fact, diet and exercise can improve the results of butt implants or a Brazilian Butt Lift.

However, if diet and exercise aren’t giving you the results you want, there’s no harm in investigating other options.

Every(booty) is different, and with an experienced cosmetic surgeon, you can find the right procedure to get the figure you’ve always wanted.
